Summer Open Library Hours

The Spring Ave Open Library programming begins on Monday, June 17. We are open on Mondays from 1:00-4:00 through July 29. This year our theme is Read, Learn, Grow, and our focus will be on seeds and plants. We'll also have all the Open Library favorites like cup stacking, Osmos on the iPads, and lots of reading and book check out opportunities. Enter door #7 off the playground. We look forward to reading with you this summer! 

Mark your calendars for our Spring Ave Family Game Night on Monday, June 24 from 6:00-7:30 pm. Board games and prizes are provided. All ages welcome. Enter door #7 off the playground.

Committee Chairperson Recruiting Is Now Underway

We have over 50 committees and each one’s success is because of all of our amazing parent volunteers. We still have vacant positions to fill- Run Club, Variety Show and Trivia Night. We also need two people for each Book Fair and Art Awareness.

Last Day of School Popsicle Party

The last day of school is filled with lots of exciting activities. Spring will start with the Fun Run at 1:30p, the school will cheer the Run Club on as they run their last mile for the year. Following at 2p is the popsicle party hosted by Spring PTO. At approx. 2:45p, the 6th grade class will receive their clap-out. Join us at the kindergarten doors to cheer them on.

Calling All Parents- Variety Show Needs You!


It’s that time of year again, the Spring Avenue Variety Show!  It happens every other year. Wouldn’t you love to lead this incredible production? You get to advertise the production, collect, preview, and edit all of the acts ahead of time.  You will conduct a program cover contest for the show and order all of the necessary stage equipment. If you know stage direction and stage crew management, the PTO needs you. The Variety Show is the best show on earth! Just do it.

Neighborhood Safety Announcement from Mr. Lawson

From Mr. Lawson:

Good afternoon Spring Avenue families,

This morning, our 3rd and 4th Grade students received a presentation on internet safety and cyber-bullying from Investigators Sheehan and Doyle from the Cook County State's Attorney's office and Officer Andries from the LaGrange Police Department.  This presentation was similar in nature to the presentation given to 6th Graders and Gurrie students by Detective Rich Wistocki, but with consideration given to the students' younger ages.  I will include the parent version of this presentation in my community email this weekend, as I did last year to all parents.  Parents of 3rd and 4th Graders should feel free to discuss today's presentation with their children tonight.

This presentation is one that we have every year and has been planned for several months, but in light of recent incidents in the neighborhood, I asked Officer Andries to return tomorrow to Spring Avenue during Morning Kickoff to do a brief reminder and explanation of "stranger danger".  One thing that we emphasize with students during any discussion regarding safety is reporting anything of concern to a trusted adult.  Our students are good about reporting things that concern them, so thank you for reinforcing this message at home and empowering them with the tools they need to identify and report situations that should be addressed by the adults in their lives.

Summer Family Book Club

Join us for Summer Family Book Club, July 10, 6:00-7:30 at Ideal School

Families with students of all ages are invited to participate in our second District 105 Summer Family Book Club. We will be reading What Is NASA? written by Sarah Fabiny.  Families will explore stations related to the space race, the Apollo 11 moon landing (50 years ago this year!), our solar system, and other outer space science topics. The event is in a station rotation style where families are invited to investigate the stations at their own pace. 

  • Participating families will be provided the book and related materials before the end of the school year.

We have lots of fun activities planned including bucket brigade, dizzy bat, steal the pig, water balloon toss, and the fan favorite. . . . dunk tank!

Second Grade Bike Registration Day

Tuesday, May 14th

8:45AM until 10:00AM

Calling All Bike Owners!!!

All 2nd graders are encouraged to ride their bikes to school on Tuesday, May 14th!  Please make sure they wear a bike helmet and bring a lock to secure their bikes to the bike racks at school.

La Grange and Countryside Police officers will be on hand to register the bikes and discuss bike safety! 

Kevin from The Wheel Thing in La Grange will also be on hand to assist with this fun event!

Students in grades 3rd thru 6th that have not registered their bikes can also ride to school that day.   The police will register these students bikes and copies of the registration forms will be sent home with the children for safe keeping!

This week is Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week. Please help us celebrate our Spring Avenue teachers and staff by recognizing their hard work and dedication to our children.

We encourage parents and children to take this opportunity to thank our teachers and staff for their efforts.  Please write a note, make a card, or send an email to acknowledge them sometime during the week.  

The PTO plans to honor the teachers and staff each day this week. We are in need of volunteers to help bring homemade baked goods (cookies, brownies, muffins, etc) on Thursday, May 9th.

Flying High Fundraiser 4/19/19

April 19th is a non attendance day for Spring Avenue Students. Keep them entertained by signing them up for our last Flying High Pizza fundraiser of the school year! 

They'll have lunch and plenty of playtime from 12:00-3:00. Register online before 11:59pm Wednesday 14th and receive a $5 discount per child. Online registration is open now. Check the attached flyer for all the details.

Revised End of School Year Date

During the course of this school year, District 105 schools were closed on three occasions due to severe weather.  One of these days was made up when students attended school on January 18th.  This day was originally a non-attendance day for students.  

The Illinois School Code mandates a minimum of five emergency days for our school calendar.  Emergency days may be used as school days if the school closes unexpectedly during the regular school year.  These five days are identified on our annual D105 calendar every year, which is posted on the website (www.d105.net) under the calendar tab.  This year, the Illinois State Board of Education is allowing school districts to substitute up to two student days for a full day of parent/teacher conferences and/or a full professional learning day for teacher.  District 105 has both of these included in our calendar.

We have decided to extend the school year by one student day.  Monday, June 3rd is scheduled as a half-day for student, but will now be a full day.  In addition, students will also attend a full day of school on Tuesday.  The end of the 2018-2019 school year will be at 3:00 PM (3:15 PM for Gurrie) on Tuesday, June 4th.  The extension of the school year will add 1 ½ student days to the calendar for a total of 175 ½. 

The updated district calendar will be posted to our D105 webpage.

Make A Raffle Basket Donation for Fun Fair

The annual Fun Fair is coming up on Friday, April 26th! Please make a donation to one of our raffle baskets. The baskets are raffled off to students at the end of the evening as a "grand finale" to a great night! There are basket themes for each grade level, but you can make a donation for any theme. All items must be new or unused.

Our themes this year will be:

K - Fun in the Sun (bubbles, water toys, chalk, silly string)

1 - Color Me Happy (arts and crafts)

2 - Feeling Warm and Fuzzy (stuffed animals, squishy balls, mini-stuffed animal key chains)

3  - Sports and Outdoor Fun (balls, jump ropes, frisbees)

4 - Ultimate Chicago Fan (Hawks, Bulls, Cubs, Bears, Sox gear)

5 - Lets get cooking (baking Supplies, aprons, Measuring sups, spatulas, cake mix)

6 - Lights, Camera, Action (movie night yummies)

Each time you make a donation, your child will receive a FREE raffle ticket! Your child can bring their donations to school (their classroom teacher has a collection basket) or you can drop donations off at 918 S. Madison. The last day for collection is FRIDAY, APRIL 19th.

Additionally, if you have any unwanted baskets we can use for the prizes, please drop them off at 918 S. Madison as well. The bigger, the better!

SPRING After 3 program registration is now open! 

Chess Scholars/Afterschool Enrichment Solutions (AES) programs will run registration through the Chess Scholars website for Chess and the AES website for Engineering and Coding.  

All other classes, registration will be on the Spring Avenue PTO Website.
